European Council and Parliament Reach Provisional Agreement on Updating Priority Substances in Surface Water and Groundwater
23 September 2025: The Council and the European Parliament have reached a provisional agreement on updating the EU directive on pollutants in surface and groundwater. Newly included substances include pesticides, pharmaceuticals, bisphenols, and PFAS (including TFA), while outdated substances such as atrazine will be removed and limit values tightened. In addition, a cumulative limit for pesticides of 0.2 µg/L will be introduced, and Bisphenol A will be classified as a priority hazardous substance.

40th DGL Annual Meeting 2025 with Groundwater Session
The 40th Annual Meeting of the German Society for Limnology (DGL) took place from September 14–18, 2025, in Frankfurt am Main, hosted by Goethe University Frankfurt, the Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum, and the Kompetenzzentrum Wasser Hessen.
SETAC 13th Young Environmental Scientist Meeting
The 13th Young Environmental Scientist (YES) Meeting was held from August 11–14, 2025, in York, UK, and was organized by the SETAC Europe Student Advisory Council.

Colloquium on the Presentation of the Master’s Thesis by Sarah Wohlmann
On June 16, 2025, the colloquium for the presentation of Sarah Wohlmann’s master’s thesis took place at the Riedberg Campus of Goethe University Frankfurt. The thesis is titled: “Integrated Assessment of Groundwater Ecosystems: Acute and Mechanism-Specific Effects of Groundwater Samples from the Urban Area of Hanover, Germany.”
Night of Science 2025
On June 13, 2025, the annual Night of Science took place at Goethe University Frankfurt from 5 p.m. until 5 a.m. The event, held every year since 2006 at the Riedberg Campus, offered more than 80 lectures where school students, university students, and the general public could discover new insights from the natural sciences, learn about everyday phenomena, watch exciting experiments, and understand complex scientific topics in an accessible way.
LURCH Summer School 2025
The LURCH Summer School took place on 8th and 9th May at the TUM Science & Study Centre in Raithenhalsach.
