On June 25 and 26, the third gwTriade sampling campaign took place near the city of Rösrath north of Airport Köln Bonn. The airport is located in the catchment area of the Rösrath water collection and is the origin point for a PFAS contamination in the groundwater. The source of the contamination is an extinguishing basin on the airport grounds, which was used in the past for fire-fighting exercises.
The aim of the sampling is to investigate the PFAS plume in the catchment area by sampling groundwater measuring points. For this purpose, the groundwater samples are subjected to a chemical analysis and an ecotoxicological assessment using bioassays. The samples are also examined for the groundwater organisms they contain and for the presence of organisms based on environmental DNA (eDNA).
